Eyelid Surgery

Luckily, you can change your look—and your outlook—with aesthetic eyelid surgery. In some cases, blepharoplasty may not always be the first choice. Newer, less invasive techniques that utilize fillers or fat transfer can add volume around the eyes or the brow, smooth wrinkles and add fullness to hollows (in fact, after consulting with Dr. Kayem about blepharoplasty, you may find that fillers or fat transfer are a better alternative for you).

Our eyes tend to age more quickly than other parts. Blepharoplasty (aesthetic eyelid surgery) removes excess skin (and sometimes fat) from the upper and lower eyelids to give you a natural, rested and rejuvenated look.

Dr. Kayem performs aesthetic eyelid surgery under general or local anesthesia. He makes fine incisions in preexisting natural creases. After closing the incisions with tiny sutures, the procedure is finished. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is a similar procedure, which removes fatty pockets from below the lower eyelid without any skin incision. In this type of surgery, Dr. Kayem makes incisions inside the lower eyelid and then removes or repositions the fat. Sutures are typically not required.

You will probably experience some minor swelling and bruising after blepharoplasty, but those issues resolve after just a few days. Dr. Kayem will let you know when you can resume normal and/or strenuous activities. In some cases, a portion of the costs of blepharoplasty may be covered by insurance if your droopy eyelids are impeding your sight.
