Facial fillers can be used on aging faces: plumping cheeks and lips, smoothing jawlines, and treating lines and wrinkles (even deep ones). Fillers are administered via minimally invasive injections and provide immediate results.

You don’t need to choose a specific facial filler; you just need to choose a doctor who understands each filler’s properties and benefits. Dr. Marc Kayem has been using facial filler injectables for decades, and will consult with you to find the right solution for your individual situation.

The visit starts with a review of your medical history and the areas you would like treated. Dr. Kayem explains which filler he recommends, where it will be placed, and the risks and benefits before treatment. The filler is injected under the skin with a fine needle or a cannula. You can ask to see the product packaging to confirm which filler is being used.

Most fillers are gradually absorbed by the body, so treatment may be repeated over time. See Types of Facial Fillers.

Common side effects include bruising, redness, swelling, pain or tenderness, and itching at the injection sites. Most appear shortly after treatment and settle within days to weeks. In some cases, side effects can appear weeks, months, or years later.

Rare but serious complications can occur if filler enters a blood vessel. They include damage to the skin, vision problems including blindness, and stroke. Seek medical care right away for any change in vision, severe pain, or skin color changes near a treated area.

Only FDA-approved fillers should be used. Injectable silicone and other unapproved products are not dermal fillers and carry serious risks.
