Types of Facial Fillers

A brief overview:

• Juvederm delivers volume using hyaluronic acid gel, a humectant that is naturally present in the body. Its thinner gel-like texture makes it well suited as a lip filler.
• Radiesse also fills and plumps while promoting collagen production.
• Bellafill stimulates your own collagen, and can be used for both deep lines and acne scars.

Botox is not a filler, but it can work very well in conjunction with a filler. Botox, or alternatives such as Xeomin, soften muscle lines, and help reduce wrinkles. They can often be used in conjunction with fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, and Bellafill. Fillers differ in what they are made of and in how long the body takes to absorb them.

• Hyaluronic acid fillers are absorbed gradually. They can be dissolved with a specific solution if needed.
• Calcium hydroxylapatite and poly-L-lactic acid fillers are also absorbed over time. Poly-L-lactic acid works gradually, by stimulating the body’s own collagen.
• Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) fillers are not absorbed. They can form lumps or be visible under the skin.
